2011
As it was in 2010 and the years prior since the inception of the Glenview Clovers 4H program, the death toll of animals continued in 2011 stemming from programming at the Glenview (IL) Park District's tax payer purchased and supported Wagner Farm. More than 20 lambs and pigs from the Glenview Clovers 4H group were taken to the Lake County (IL) fair to be sold for slaughter, despite humane options being available through Wagner Farm Rescue Fund. These 2011 Glenview Clovers 4H lambs and pigs are now dead. They no longer have a voice to let the world know that they were here; that they were living beings and their lives mattered. They no longer have a chance to plead for their very own lives. Individuals who support compassion must act as the animals' voices. We must be the continuing voices for any animals scheduled to come to Wagner Farm in the future who would meet the same inhumane fate of slaughter, or be exploited through any means of inhumane programs. With our voices, humane programming can and must be implemented ongoing through all Wagner Farm programs.
2010
We have recently learned that some of the Wagner Farm animals are not owned by the park district but are actually privately owned by Wagner Farm / 4H personnel. Not only is one of the cows privately owned but is also being leased to someone else while on the farm. Thus, there are now many questions and concerns in regard to both the ultimate welfare of these animals due to the leasing and/or sales involved, the involvement of additional parties and payments, and the usage of the taxpayer purchased and supported Wagner Farm as a base for such private leasing and/or sales operations.
Other issues...
- Why is Boo's baby, Sprint, separated so young form his mom; shouldn't mothers and babies be together? Why can't Boo suckle his own mother when that milk is meant for him? Why is Boo going to be sent to a farm in Wisconsin at two to four months of age to be used as a foundation bull (for sperm)?
- Why do the geese, who are water birds, have no ramp to get into their tub of water?
- Why do none of the birds have all-day protection from the sun while they are outside in their pens?
- Why is there no fan inside the bird coops to give the birds air circulation?
- Why did the 4-H parents who raised their lambs and pigs on taxpayer property (Wagner Farm) choose to send their children's animals off to slaughter when humane alternatives were presented and higher payments offered?
- Why are inhumane programs allowed to operate on taxpayer land?
- Why was an unwanted rooster isolated for weeks inside the storage room of the chicken coop... only to be found dead... when payment and humane placement for the bird was offered?
- Why were Wagner Farm's two draft horses, Doc and Betsy, separated to two different locations when Wagner Farm no longer wanted them and when the Wagner Farm Rescue Fund could have provided humane placement for them to remain together?
- Why was Bubbles the cow sent to slaughter when she had a painful blocked bladder when she could have been purchased and treated by the Rescue Fund?
- Why is the barn cat not spayed?
